Souza *Gender: Female *Age: She looks around 16, but is in actuality 370 years old. *Personality: -Although she can be snooty and a brat at times, Newport is usually a good-natured girl who is well-mannered. To her siblings she acts more like herself, but to anyone else, she puts on a big smile and asks them to visit her sometime (as tourism is one of the main ways she gets money.) -Newport always seems to have the latest fashions and newest fads faster than most other cities. She hates not being in-style. Also, she has started new fashions herself, as she can make jewelery and loves to design clothing as well. -Newport is nearly surrounded by water, and has a long history with the Navy. Sophia loves the water, and one of her favourite pastimes is, other than shopping, going to the beach or just looking out over Cliffwalk at the water. *Appearance: ( working on picture) Newport dislikes wearing the same thing over,so she is wearing different clothes each day, although she doeshave a favorite peice of clothing, which is a v-neck sweater with a star-pattern on it. She lugs around a four-hundred-dollar Coach purse. Newport has blond hair and green eyes, and an almost child-like face. She always wears her hair down with a headband. Unlike her "father" Rhode Island, Newport is not at all short, and has become taller than him by around five to seven inches. Newport can be found walking around and socializing in her city, at the beach, or in one of her many Mansions. *History: Newport was first found along the shore by 8 men who had escaped the Bay colony (Massachusetts) because they had spoken out against religion. After that, Newport grew very rapidly and soon became the largest and most important port in RI. Later, She also became one of the richest towns out ofall the colonies, and a key part of the Triangular Trade route (sadly, that meant she sold slaves tothe rest of the colonies and cities.) Trade also meant pirates, and she had trouble with them. - During the Revolutionary War, England saw a good oppertunity for attacking New York through Newport, so Newport was under the jurisdiction of England for over a year. (and was forced to eat his food, which after a while, sadly, she didn't mind eating) The rest of the US was so furious with England that they started what was called "The Battle of Rhode Island", what was supposed to be a joint effort with France to drive out England. When France failed to show up, however, the seizeing of Newport failed, and Newport stayed under England's control for another year until he decided to leave for New York. -For the rest of the war, French troops commanded by Rochambeau stayed in Newport's land and used it as a military base. -After the Revolution, Newport lost her place in the group of important cities, and became more of a vacation spot for upper-middle class and presidents alike. In the mid nineteenth century her mansions were built. After this, her place as important station oftrade was gone, but she gained populairity through housing and tourism.
